SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's home football game against Furman on Oct. 16 will be televised live on SportSouth, the Southern Conference announced, in conjunction with SportSouth, on Thursday.

The Samford-Furman game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (CT) kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game is part of SportSouth's SoCon Saturdays series, which will include eight conference games throughout the season.

This marks the second televised game of the season for Samford. The Bulldogs' season-opener at Florida State on Sept. 4 will be televised live on ESPNU.

SoCon Saturdays will kick off on Sept. 4 with Appalachian State playing at Chattanooga. On Sept. 25, the series will resume with the Elon at Georgia Southern game. The next matchup in the series will be Elon at Appalachian State on Oct. 9.

Furman at Samford on Oct. 16 will be followed by Appalachian State at Western Carolina on Oct. 23 and The Citadel at Wofford on Oct. 30. The final two games in the series, scheduled for Nov. 13 and Nov. 20, will be selected jointly by the conference and SportSouth to choose games that figure to have the greatest impact on the league race.

"The concept of two wild card weekends is something we've discussed in the past and are excited to finally put in place," Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino said. "This will assure our viewers of seeing meaningful conference games down the stretch in November."

This marks the third year in a row Samford has hosted a SoCon Saturdays contest. Samford's 2008 home game against Furman and last season's home contest against Chattanooga were also a part of the series. Samford joined the SoCon prior to the 2008 season.
